Amman, July 5, 2025 – As part of its ongoing efforts to embrace digital transformation and offer advanced digital services that enhance the customer experience and meet their evolving expectations, Zain Jordan has announced the implementation of its electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) system for self-registration of prepaid voice and internet lines. This move also aligns with the company's commitment to environmental sustainability and its dedication to minimizing the ecological impact of its operations by adopting digital solutions.
The system has been implemented in collaboration with strategic partners Euronovate, a Swiss leader in digital identity and onboarding solutions, and its local partner, Business Consult.
This step reinforces Zain's leadership in the local telecommunications market and its central role in advancing the Kingdom's digital infrastructure. It reflects the company's firm commitment to providing innovative solutions that meet the needs of individuals, businesses, and institutions while keeping pace with the rapid global technological advancements. The new eKYC solution delivers a fully digital, secure, and user-friendly experience for Zain's prepaid customers and aligns with the country's Economic Modernization Vision and its digital transformation goals, contributing to the development of a more efficient and sustainable digital ecosystem.
The new self eKYC system enables all customers to independently activate their prepaid lines through any of Zain's sales channels, including Zain's showrooms and the Zain eShop (eshop.jo.zain.com). The activation process is simple, quick, and secure. Identity verification is performed electronically using a Jordanian national ID, the “Sanad" digital ID app, or a passport. Customers will also receive a digital copy of their contract via SMS, enhancing flexibility and aligning with customer expectations for a seamless digital experience.
On the operational level, the implementation of the eKYC system has significantly improved efficiency, reducing line activation time by 30–40%, and increasing digital adoption across electronic channels by 12% since its introduction in 2024.
From an environmental perspective — which Zain Jordan places great importance on, recognizing climate change as a pressing environmental, economic, and social challenge — this initiative supports Zain's sustainability efforts. As one of the first Jordanian companies to address the environmental impact of its operations, Zain began digitizing its processes years ago by reducing paper use and relying on electronic contracts and digital displays.
Through the new eKYC system, Zain has reduced its reliance on paper, saving more than 2.5 million sheets of paper annually, which translates into preserving approximately 312 trees, cutting down carbon dioxide emissions by around 170,000 kg, conserving over 2.5 million liters of water, and preventing the generation of nearly 12 tons of paper waste to date. These actions affirm Zain's commitment to protecting the environment and reducing its carbon footprint for a more sustainable future.
In line with its 2020–2025 sustainability strategy, Zain continues to adopt eco-friendly practices, such as reducing the use of natural resources and replacing them with digital solutions that support the green economy.
As part of its operational alignment with its sustainability goals and its ongoing efforts to promote environmental awareness, Zain has implemented a series of impactful initiatives. The company has successfully reduced the use of single-use plastics by over 50% across its operations by applying environmentally responsible practices within the workplace and customer services.
Zain also continues to contribute to marine conservation, having participated four times in Red Sea underwater cleanup campaigns in Aqaba, in collaboration with ProjectSea and Abu Shaqra Trading Company, collecting over 280 kg of plastic, metal, and discarded fishing nets, while ensuring proper waste separation for recycling.
Zain is consistently working to instill a culture of volunteerism and encourage the community to adopt environmentally friendly practices, raising awareness of environmental responsibility and supporting national efforts to combat climate change. It has established partnerships with several local entities, including a strategic cooperation agreement with the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) to support the sustainability of Jordan's national tree, the Oak tree (Malloul), within the Yarmouk Forest Reserve. Zain funded the rehabilitation of a specific area within the reserve, planting 250 trees in a zone now named after the company.
Zain also continues to support underprivileged Jordanian farmers through its participation in the Green Caravan Project, in collaboration with the Arab Group for the Protection of Nature, which aims to empower farmers economically and restore their production capabilities. To date, 55 farmers have benefited from this initiative.
In addition, Zain is actively planting trees in its Thagrat Asfour forest in Jerash, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Forestry Directorate, reflecting its deep commitment to preserving greenery and biodiversity across Jordan. The total number of trees Zain has planted across various governorates and regions has now reached 18,750 trees.
The company also regularly launches awareness campaigns on its social media platforms, addressing a variety of environmental topics aimed at spreading awareness and encouraging sustainable practices within the community — reinforcing a culture of environmental protection and positive behavioral change toward natural resources.
